A delegation of Members of County Assembly from Kajiado County today visited the Machakos GBV Centre for a benchmarking tour aimed at strengthening their county’s response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Machakos County continues to stand out through its modern GBV Centre and well-coordinated, survivor-centered approach that is transforming lives and restoring dignity to survivors.
Speaking during the visit, the CECM for Tourism, Trade, Gender and Social Welfare, Hon. Sharon Mutua, emphasized the need for a complete mindset shift away from harmful traditional practices, cautioning against the use of kangaroo courts in handling GBV cases. Her sentiments were echoed by Chief Officer Dr. Bernadette Wavinya, who called for vigilance and timely reporting of GBV incidents through the appropriate legal and support channels.
The Machakos GBV Centre provides integrated services including medical care, psychological counselling, legal assistance, spiritual support, and safe spaces, ensuring survivors receive comprehensive, timely, and dignified care.
This multi-sectoral approach, coupled with continuous grassroots outreach and awareness creation, is playing a critical role in addressing and eliminating harmful societal norms while strengthening protection mechanisms for vulnerable groups.
The visiting delegation, led by Hon. Naisiae Karia, Hon. Timothy Saigilu, and Hon. Stephen Ngatho, expressed appreciation for the insights gained during the tour, noting that the experience had equipped them with valuable knowledge to strengthen GBV response frameworks in Kajiado County.
