ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Developing county water policies and regulations.
- Implementation of sustainable community water programs in non-commercially viable areas.
- Collaborating with other stake holders to develop and manage county water resources.
- Spearheading rain water harvesting in public facilities.
- Governing safe water services through Water Services Providers (WSPs) under the Water Act 2016, Water quality control.
Environment & Natural Resources
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Sustainable management of the environment.
- Tree planting and management.
- Screening of development plan for compliance with environmental laws.
- Screening of county projects for environmental safeguards.
- Project environmental social impact and audit assessment reports reviewing for licensing by NEMA.
- Environmental pollution control as per EMCA 1999
Sewerage, Sanitation and Waste Management
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Spearheading the implementation of Sewerage and Sanitation projects in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Ensuring routine repair and maintenance of Sewerage infrastructure.
- Overseeing regular monitoring and testing of waste water and industrial effluents.
- Promoting and developing hygiene and sanitation facilities.
- Capacity building on modern waste water recycling technology.
- Approval of waste water disposal system.
Climate Change
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Leading climate adaptation and mitigation efforts through strategic programs aligned with the county development agenda (CIDP and MCCCAP)
- Research & Capacity building on Climate Change
- Promotion of access to clean energy and Green Infrastructure Development.
- Policy advocacy in collaboration with regional and national governments.
- Climate finance management by seeking funding opportunities grants and incentives to support climate related projects and initiatives.
- Development and implementation of climate change strategic plan.
- Implementation of national and county climate change policies and regulations
- Providing strategic policy direction for effective service delivery.
