Governor Wavinya Officially Opens The Machakos ASK Show.

Governor Wavinya Ndeti now says the solution to food security lies in investment in Climate Smart agricultural practices and value addition for farm produces.

Speaking on Friday at the Machakos ASK national show moments after touring numerous agricultural and industrial exhibitions, the Machakos county boss said modern agricultural techniques coupled with tech-aided value addition will be the new game-changer in agricultural transformation.

“Our goal is to blend the opportunities in agriculture with those in industrialization to create a synergy of value addition for wealth creation,” the Governor said, urging those attending the forum to establish meaningful networks for further engagement.

Wavinya said her government was keen on supporting numerous interventions aimed at boosting both crop and livestock production in line with her Chakula Mezani Pesa Mfukoni philosophy.

“I have done my part to support food, cash crop and livestock production through a raft of measures including provision of free certified seedlings and farm inputs to our farmers,” she said.

She went on, “We are also working closely with numerous development partners in the area of Agriculture to promote various value chains key among them horticultural products, coffee, avocado, mangoes, livestock, grain production and fisheries.”

She also urged investors to take advantage of the Kinanie Leather Processing Factory launched recently by President William Ruto to invest in the leather industry.

Deputy Governor, Francis Mwangangi said the intervention by the governor will play a major role in boosting farmers’ income thereby leading to major economic transformation.

“That means your commitment to empowering farmers through various interventions is going to be a reality very soon,” said Mwangangi.
