Machakos Governor, Wavinya Ndeti has expressed concern over the surge in teenage pregnancies, calling on parents and stakeholders to increase their vigilance to reverse this trend.
Speaking at Seventh Day Adventist church, Joska where she attended a worship service before witnessing the launch of the church’s strategic plan (2025-29), the Governor lamented that Machakos topped the list of counties with the highest figures of under-age pregnancies in the country. She stated that, as a result, an increasing number of girls are dropping out of school, thereby placing the burden of raising children on their parents.
The Governor urged parents and other stakeholders to be extra vigilant to ensure their teenage girls do not fall into the trap of unwanted pregnancies and other vices such as drugs and substance abuse.
Her Excellency went on to mention that a modern rehabilitation center will be set up in Machakos to help reform youths who have sunk into drugs and substance abuse.
