A delegation from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development today met with officers from Machakos Municipality, led by Municipal Manager Mr. Judah Mumo, to discuss county and municipal preparedness ahead of the Second Annual Performance Assessment (APA II) under the Second Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP II).
During the meeting, the National Programme Coordination Team (NPCT) presented the APA II framework, highlighting key performance indicators, governance and financial management benchmarks, and compliance requirements that municipalities must meet to enhance service delivery and qualify for performance-based grants.
The APA II exercise, scheduled for February and March 2026, will ensure that municipalities have a clear understanding of assessment criteria, strengthen institutional capacity, and align planning, budgeting, and reporting systems. The process is expected to drive improved urban development outcomes, promote accountability, and support Machakos in achieving its strategic vision for sustainable and well-managed urban spaces.
