The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Hon. Onesmus Kuyu, chaired a stakeholder consultative meeting with representatives from the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), led by Director Oloo, to deliberate on strategies aimed at strengthening water security and community resilience across Machakos County.
The discussion centred on the implementation of a comprehensive four-year plan to enhance sustainable water access. Key partners in this initiative include the Water Resources Authority (WRA), the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD), and NEMA, collaborating closely with the County Government of Machakos to deliver practical solutions to water scarcity.
Proposed interventions under the plan include the construction of water pans, sand dams, and boreholes, as well as the installation of plastic water storage tanks in 80 dispensaries across the county to ensure consistent water supply for communities and health facilities.
The official launch of these projects is scheduled for 25th February 2026 in Nairobi, marking a major milestone in Machakos County’s commitment to sustainable water access, environmental conservation, and climate resilience, benefiting both present and future generations.
