Machakos Boosts Food Security with Distribution of 74.9 Tons of Certified Seeds

A well-fed county is a prosperous county. Under the guiding mantra “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni,” H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti has turned commitment into action.

At Kathaana Market in Kangundo West, the Governor oversaw the distribution of 74.9 tons of high-yielding, pest-resistant, and climate-smart certified seeds to 37,450 farmers across Machakos County. These seeds will be planted on 7,493 acres and are projected to produce over 93,000 bags of grain, a major step toward strengthening food security and boosting household incomes.

The distribution was executed within 48 hours to ensure farmers plant on time and make the most of the current rains. Farmers are encouraged to maximize this opportunity, utilize the certified seeds effectively, and make this planting season count toward increased productivity and greater prosperity.
