The revitalization of the Yatta Canal marks a historic milestone for the people of Machakos County and stands as a powerful testament to leadership anchored on action, accountability, and delivery.
When H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti toured the Yatta Plateau in 2022, she engaged directly with farmers and families whose livelihoods depended on a canal that had long been choked by silt and years of neglect. Listening to their concerns, she made a firm commitment to restore this critical agricultural lifeline. Today, that promise is flowing into reality.
The desilting and restoration of the Yatta Canal is more than a routine infrastructure upgrade; it is a transformative intervention aimed at strengthening food security, stimulating economic renewal, and building resilient communities. The project directly advances the Governor’s “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni” agenda by ensuring reliable water supply to farms—boosting crop production, supporting local schools and businesses, and securing household incomes.
As water flows once again through the canal, it symbolizes renewed hope, expanded agricultural productivity, and a brighter, more prosperous future for the people of Yatta and the greater Machakos County.
