The County Government of Machakos, through the Department of Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock, and Co-operative Development (Veterinary Services), has conducted an extensive poultry disease sampling exercise in Machakos Town. This proactive intervention forms a vital part of the County’s broader disease surveillance strategy, aimed at detecting potential poultry infections at the earliest stage possible. By identifying risks early, the County is better positioned to implement swift and effective control measures, including targeted vaccinations and timely treatment where necessary.
This initiative serves as a significant public health safeguard, enhancing food security while protecting the overall health and productivity of poultry across the region. By strengthening this critical agricultural sector, which supports thousands of households, the programme plays a central role in advancing H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s socio-economic transformation agenda, “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni.”
Through such deliberate and preventative measures, Machakos County continues to build healthier communities and more resilient livelihoods, ensuring that both farmers and consumers benefit from a stable and secure food system.
