The administration of Machakos County Referral Hospital, led by CEO Winfred Nzuki and ENT Specialist Audiologist David Musau, hosted Paige Stringer, CEO of the Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss (GFCHL), alongside James Musyoka, CEO and Co-Founder of Kenya Connect.
The discussions focused on the critical importance of early intervention in hearing loss, noting that undetected hearing challenges in newborns can significantly affect speech development, learning outcomes, and overall child development. The engagement aligns with Machakos County’s health priorities as well as Kenya’s National Ear and Hearing Care Strategic Plan.
H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, continues to engage development partners to strengthen the county’s newborn hearing screening programme. Proposed interventions include infrastructure improvements to enhance efficiency, privacy, and workflow, alongside the donation of advanced audiology equipment such as a Diagnostic ABR machine and other essential screening devices to support early detection and timely intervention.
