The Department of Health is conducting a two-day surgical workshop at Machakos County Referral Hospital, bringing together surgeons, surgical trainees, and medical officers for hands-on training and skills enhancement.
The workshop focuses on advanced surgical techniques including laparoscopy, WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet), and endoscopy. It also provides specialized training for scrub nurses and biomedical engineers on equipment handling and patient management, ensuring a comprehensive approach to surgical care delivery.
Patients have turned up in large numbers to benefit from the procedures, which are covered under SHA, with the minimally invasive techniques offering reduced pain, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery times.
The initiative reflects a strong commitment to strengthening clinical capacity and improving healthcare outcomes through continuous professional development of medical personnel.
It further underscores the commitment of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, to enhancing surgical services, equipping healthcare workers with modern skills, and improving access to quality and efficient healthcare for residents across Machakos County.
