Machakos Enhances Water Security as Kwa Masele Irrigation Weir Reaches Full Capacity

Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, the County Government of Machakos continues to prioritize sustainable water harvesting solutions aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening climate resilience across the county.

A key example of this commitment is the Kwa Masele Irrigation Weir in Yatta Sub-County, which has now been fully replenished following the ongoing rains. The weir is part of the county’s broader water harvesting and irrigation infrastructure programme designed to support agricultural productivity and enhance food security.

The project is providing the local community with a reliable source of water for irrigation, domestic use, and livestock, significantly improving household incomes and strengthening economic activities in the area. It is directly benefiting over 2,000 residents, who now have improved access to a dependable water supply for both farming and daily needs.

The initiative continues to play a critical role in advancing the County Government’s development agenda by promoting sustainable agriculture, reducing dependency on rainfall, and empowering communities to increase production and resilience.

Through such interventions, the County Government of Machakos remains committed to delivering long-term water solutions that drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents across the county.
