Machakos County continues to place youth empowerment at the heart of its development agenda, equipping young people across all wards with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to thrive.
Governor H.E. Wavinya Ndeti has officially launched Cohort 2 of the Machakos Youth Mentorship Programme under the Machakos Youth Service (MYS), building on the success of the inaugural intake. The second cohort has admitted 1,640 youths drawn from all corners of the county, underscoring the growing impact and reach of the programme.
The intake comprises 245 youths from Machakos Town, 223 from Mavoko, 218 from Kathiani, 198 from Mwala, 168 from Yatta, 165 from Kangundo, 163 from Matungulu, 116 from Masinga, 76 from Ndithini, and 68 from Kalama, reflecting a deliberate effort to ensure equitable representation across all sub-counties.
The youths reported earlier this week and have commenced Phase One of the programme — a structured boot camp designed to instill discipline, life skills, and career orientation. Upon completion of the boot camp, participants will proceed to Vocational Training Centres for a fully sponsored three-month skills training, with courses selected during the boot camp phase.
Training areas include Electrical and Electronics, Culinary Arts, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Plumbing, Masonry, Welding, Cosmetology, Fashion and Design, and Event Management and DJing, among others.
At the conclusion of the training, participants will sit for National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) examinations, earning nationally recognized certifications that enhance their employability, support entrepreneurship, and promote self-reliance.
The Machakos Youth Service Programme remains a flagship initiative of Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration, translating the county’s commitment to youth empowerment into practical skills, sustainable livelihoods, and long-term economic transformation.
