ROLES AND FUCTIONS
- Preparing and implementing physical and land use development plans.
- Administering and managing physical and land use planning in Machakos County.
- Enforcing procedures and standards for development control and land use regulation.
- Co-coordinating physical and land use planning activities.
- Resolving disputes related to physical and land use planning
- Promoting the equitable and sustainable use, planning and management of land.
- Overseeing the functions and relationships between planning authorities.
- Ensuring that property investments benefit local communities and their economies
- Maintaining public participation, accountability and democratic decision-making in collaboration with communities, and the government.
Housing & Urban Development
ROLES AND FUCTIONS
With support of World Bank through Kenya Municipal Program (KMP) and Nairobi Metropolitan Improvement Services (NAMSIP) the department has been able to achieve the following:
- Planning of 16 urban centers.
- Development of GIS Lab that contains database for street address and other related GIS systems
- SGR Embakasi spatial planning & engineering project for re-zoning and detailed engineering designs for infrastructure provision for SGR Embakasi area container deport and Syokimau area (ongoing)
- Kenol Konza bypass corridor (regional plan) zoning plan that covers 60 meters on either side of the corridor to facilitate harmonious land use (ongoing)
- Mavoko Integrated Strategic Urban Development Plan (ISUDP) for Mavoko Municipality spatial plan that provides for zoning and infrastructure provision to Facilitate controlled development (ongoing)
Roads
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Developing and maintaining sustainable transport and infrastructure facilities to enable efficient movement of goods and people.
- Developing and enforcing regulations and standards to ensure safe, secure and efficient transport.
- Development and management of county buildings.
- Providing consultancy services and technical support on buildings on buildings works to other county departments.
- Coordinating and advising on the selection and acquisition of vehicles and equipment.
- Maintaining and repairing of all county plant, vehicles, equipment and machinery.
- Developing and managing public transport systems, terminals and designation of commuter vehicle stations.
- Developing and implementing road safety action plans.
- Researching and implementing findings for an efficient transport and infrastructure system
- Mobilizing resources and building capacity for technical staff.
