The Machakos County Government continues to prioritize development and empowerment for all residents. Recently, we unveiled a KShs. 40 million program in collaboration with REREC to improve electricity access in rural areas. This initiative will provide transformers and build high-voltage lines to supply power to 300 households in the villages of Katutuni, Kituluni, Ukumini, and Kiusini in Ikombe, Yatta Sub-County. We encourage local communities to leverage this opportunity for innovative businesses.
Additionally, our efforts to enhance water access were highlighted through the inspection of the Mwambathaana-Kitoko water weir, which will significantly boost agriculture and livestock farming in the region. The project will also ensure hundreds of households have access to reliable water for domestic use.
In urban development, we are improving quality of life in Kalyambeu market with the installation of a borehole and a modern toilet block. The County Government is committed to addressing more community needs in the near future.
In healthcare, we officially commissioned two general wards at the Katangi Health Centre. This expansion will provide a supportive and compassionate environment for patients, especially in one of the fastest-growing economic hubs in the region.
Moreover, the Matokini Dam, which supplies water to Katangi Ward, has been stocked with fish fingerlings to promote local trade and improve residents’ diets. We urge the community to refrain from premature harvesting to ensure long-term benefits.
Through these initiatives, we reaffirm our commitment to improving lives and advancing our “CHAKULA MEZANI, PESA MFUKONI” philosophy through value addition and sustainable development.
