The County Government of Machakos will open a level 3 medical facility domiciled at the Machakos level 5 hospital in a move that is aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery in the healthcare system.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who announced the move after making an impromptu tour of the county’s largest referral facility, said hundreds of patients with minor complaints will be attended to at the new wing, which will also help to decongest the main hospital.
“We have noted a trend where a high number of patients with minor ailments are flocking the level 5 hospital, which is essentially a referral facility. To eliminate congestion and also to improve efficiency in delivery of healthcare facilities, my government has taken the bold step to open a level 3 wing to deal with those cases,” Wavinya told journalists at a press conference.
She said an entrance to the facility will be constructed adjacent to the Machakos bus park in order to reduce human traffic making their way to the main hospital.
The Governor noted serious delays were still being experienced in the Social Health Authority (SHA) system, leading to occasional paralysis of patient clearance. “I have noted the SHA system has serious delays that are hindering timely delivery of services and we are hoping the system will be fixed in order to allow seamless service delivery,” said the governor.
To address the challenge, the Governor pointed out there was a need to fast track a system integration between the county government system and the national SHA administration system to enhance efficiency.
H.E. revealed that the installation of security surveillance cameras in all the county health facilities had helped in eliminating cases of theft of medicine and other pharmaceutical gear. “As a government, we will continue to fix surveillance cameras at all strategic points to deal with the cases of theft of medicine. So far, we have seen positive results in enhancing security.
