The Department of Health joined the global community in commemorating World Tuberculosis Day under the theme “Led by the Government, Driven by Communities.” The event, held in Muumandu, underscored the county’s commitment to strengthening tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment through collaboration between government and communities.
The Chief Officer for Public Health, Simon Mwako, presided over the event and emphasized the critical role of community participation in the fight against TB. He noted that in 2025, Machakos County recorded 2,474 TB cases across all age groups, with children accounting for 8% of the total. He urged residents to seek early testing, adhere to treatment, and support those affected as part of collective efforts to eliminate the disease.
To strengthen service delivery, the County Government has established 164 public health facilities with TB diagnostic capacity, complemented by 12 private and faith-based facilities, expanding access to essential TB services across the county.
The commemoration reaffirmed the importance of sustained awareness, early detection, and strong community engagement in the ongoing fight against tuberculosis.
