The Department of Water, Irrigation, Sanitation and Climate Change has successfully concluded a comprehensive legislative workshop held at PrideInn Flamingo, Mombasa, aimed at strengthening the county’s environmental and climate change policy and legal frameworks.

The closing ceremony was presided over by County Secretary Dr. Muya Ndambuki, marking the culmination of a five-day engagement focused on refining and aligning key legislation to enhance implementation, coordination, and accountability in environmental governance.

The workshop was officially opened by Water CECM Hon. Onesmus Kuyu and brought together Chief Officers Benedict Ngumbau and Simeon Kitheka, alongside Members of the County Assembly Environment Committee led by Chairperson Hon. Fredrick Kitetu.

Discussions centered on strengthening Environment and Climate Change laws to ensure better alignment with national frameworks and emerging climate priorities. The sessions also emphasized improved implementation mechanisms to support sustainable natural resource management and climate resilience efforts across the county.

The engagement is expected to significantly enhance the county’s capacity to implement effective environmental policies, promote sustainable development, and strengthen long-term climate resilience for the benefit of residents and future generations.
