The Department of Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Environment, and Climate Change has officially commenced a comprehensive legislative workshop at PrideInn Flamingo Beach Resort in Mombasa, aimed at strengthening the policy and legal frameworks guiding environmental sustainability and climate action within the county.
The five-day workshop, running from 16th to 20th March 2026, was officially opened by Water CECM Hon. Onesmus Kuyu, alongside Chief Officers Benedict Ngumbau and Simeon Kitheka, in collaboration with the Machakos County Assembly Environment Committee led by Hon. Fredrick Kitetu.
The forum brings together key stakeholders to deliberate on the harmonization and enhancement of Environment and Climate Change Acts and related policies. The discussions are expected to strengthen governance structures and improve coordination in addressing climate-related challenges.
The initiative is aimed at positioning Machakos County as a leader in sustainable environmental governance and climate resilience, ensuring long-term protection of natural resources while supporting sustainable development and community livelihoods.
