Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperative Development, led by CECM John Kilonzo, visited Kilalani Coffee Factory as part of a collaborative programme with the Kenya Planters Cooperative Union (KPCU) aimed at strengthening coffee farming and increasing production in the region.
During the visit, the team supported coffee farmers through their cooperative societies by distributing 20,000 coffee seedlings, a key intervention aimed at encouraging the expansion and rejuvenation of coffee farms. The initiative is expected to enhance productivity, improve crop quality, and ultimately increase household incomes for farmers.
The programme reflects the commitment of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration to revitalizing the coffee sector through the provision of quality seedlings and the strengthening of cooperative structures that support sustainable agricultural production.
Through such targeted interventions, the County Government continues to empower farmers and promote agriculture as a key driver of economic growth and rural livelihoods in Machakos County.
