The Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company convened a stakeholders’ sensitization meeting bringing together residents from Zones 1 and 2, representatives from the Athi Water Works Development Agency, project consultants, the contractor, MAVWASO officials, and officers from the County Water Department headquarters. The engagement was led by the CECM for Water, Irrigation, Environment, Sanitation and Climate Change, Hon. Onesmus Kuyu.
The forum provided an update on the ongoing Water Pipeline Intensification Project in Githunguri, which covers Kinkar, Utawala, and Airways areas in Mavoko Sub-County. The project, jointly implemented by the Athi Water Works Development Agency and the County Government of Machakos, is expected to benefit over 6,000 households upon completion. It has been divided into four zones, with construction works currently underway in Zones 1 and 2.
Residents were also given an opportunity to engage directly with project implementers, raising concerns and seeking clarification on various aspects of the project implementation. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of continuous community involvement to ensure smooth execution and sustainability of the water infrastructure.
Hon. Kuyu reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, to delivering sustainable solutions to water shortages and expanding access to clean and reliable water services across Machakos County, in line with ongoing efforts to improve livelihoods and support socio-economic development.
