EXPECTANT MOTHERS URGED TO VISIT GOVERNMENT FACILITIES.

Expectant mothers have been encouraged to seek medical advice and care in designated public facilities in order to detect and prevent casualties associated with premature births.

Addressing the press after officiating the World Prematurity Day at Machakos level 5 hospital, the facility’s chief executive officer, Winfred Nzuki said it was possible to eliminate still births and premature infant deaths if mothers seek medical attention early enough.

“I urge all expectant mothers to enrol in maternity clinics in the various outlets because we never know when and if a complication might arise. With timely detection, management of pregnancy complications is easier and could save the life of the mother and the baby,” she said.

At the same time, Machakos Level 5 hospital superintendent, Daniel Katua called upon the full involvement of all stakeholders in order to reduce instances of premature delivery.

“We have proper and adequate referral system across Machakos where such cases can be dealt with and we urge all stakeholders to support this cause,” Dr Katua said.
