ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Formulation, implementation and monitoring of agricultural legislation, regulations and policies
- Supporting agricultural research, innovations and promoting technology delivery
- Facilitating and representing agricultural institutions and boards in the government
- Development, implementation and coordination of programmes in the agricultural sector
- Regulating and quality control of inputs, produce and products in the agricultural sector
- Management and control of pests and diseases
- Collecting, maintaining and managing information on agricultural sector
Livestock
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Animal Production– Focuses on dairy and beef production, sheep and goats, non-ruminants, livestock feeds and breeding.
- Range Management – Offers services in pastoralism and ranching, range land and resource monitoring.
- Livestock marketing – Responsible for livestock information management and livestock market coordination.
- Livestock extension services – Takes care of extension management, gender equity mobilization, extension information and publications, research extension liason and food security.
- Apiculture and emerging livestock – Responsible for offering services in beekeeping, quality assurance of bee products and emerging livestock e.g ostriches and quails.
- Monitoring and evaluation – In charge of project planning and policy development and monitoring and evaluation of the projects.
- Value addition and agribusiness – Responsible for commercialization of livestock production and value addition of livestock products.
Fisheries Development
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Developing of aquaculture, recreational fisheries, ecotourism and other related activities.
- Managing, developing and utilizing of inland and riverine fisheries.
- Formulation, monitoring and implementation of fisheries policies, legislations, statutes and County specific fisheries management plans.
- Developing and managing County fisheries aquaculture farms for demonstration, research, training and seed production.
- Promoting fish utilization, value addition and marketing.
- Providing and promoting fisheries extension services.
- Fisheries related licensing.
- Fisheries explorations, surveys and management of fisheries data banks
- Fish and fish products inspection, quality assurance and product development.
- Provision, management and maintenance of fisheries infrastructural facilities.
- Fish gear development.
Veterinary
ROLES AND FUNCTIONS
- Safe guarding human health through inspection and certification of meat for human consumption.
- Improving livestock breeds through artificial insemination and synchronization
- Vaccination of all livestock to control diseases in both livestock and humans.
- Early detection of diseases through sampling and lab analysis
- Promoting production of high quality hides and skins.
- Training farmers on biosafety and biosecurity in order to avoid use of antibiotics thereby avoiding antibiotic resistance.
- Farm visits for both clinical services and follow ups
- Capacity building and technical assistance to veterinary personnel
- Ensuring animals rights are protected
