Gov. Wavinya appears before Senate Committee on County Public Investment and Special Funds

Senators have faulted the National Treasury for late disbursement of funds to counties making it difficult for counties to appropriately budget and absorb the funds.

The concerns emerged during Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s appearance before the Senate
Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee chaired by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

Mr Ososti asked the Office of the Auditor General to cite National Treasury for late disbursement of funds to counties.

“When the National Treasury disburses money late to counties, that should be an audit query for them,” remarked Mr Osotsi.

Mr Ososti pointed out that sometimes counties are even unable to do supplementary budgets because they are never sure when the money will come adding that Senate needed to address the issue.

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi had raised the issue in his remarks before the Senate committee.

The DG asked Senate to convene a meeting between the Council of Governors and the National Treasury to sort out the uncertainty concerning the disbursement of funds.

During the sitting where Governor Ndeti responded to audit querries for the financial years 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 concerning unsupported bursary disbursement, emergency fund and County Executive car loans and mortgage scheme ,Senators lauded Governor Ndeti for addressing the issues which had been raised in the Audit querries.

Senators commended the Governor for proper handling of the recent flood emergencies in her County despite the lack of a County Emergency Fund.
