Machakos County ranked among top Counties in Budget Transparency

Machakos County has been ranked fourth among top performing Counties in the recently released County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS) 2023 conducted by the International Budget Partnership Kenya (IBK).

The annual survey assesses the availability of 11 key budget documents including the County Integrated Development Plan, Annual Development Plan, Approved Program Based Budget, County Quarterly Implementation Reports among others.

Machakos County published all the 11 key documents and scored 74 out of 100 points in CBTS 2023 as compared to 47 points in CBTS 2022 and 33 points in CBTS 2021.

The County is on the right trajectory in maintaining fiscal discipline and accountability through proper management of the Finance and Revenue docket.

“I am happy that the sweeping reforms we initiated through the County Treasury aimed at reforming our financial and budget operations have finally begun to bear fruit.”, said H.E. Gov. Wavinya Ndeti

She thanked the Finance Department under the leadership of County Executive Committee Member Onesmus Kuyu for initiating and spearheading sound fiscal budgetary procedures and ensuring their compliance throughout the entire County Government departments.

Other counties that topped the list were Kwale with 81 points, Makueni (80) and Bungoma (78).

The worst performing Counties were Uasin Gishu with 25 points, Homa Bay (25) Embu (22) and Trans-Nzoia (20).

“To Machakos County residents, trust the process. We will remain true to what is fair and just”, said the Governor in a Facebook post.
