Governor's Office|

I have today continued with my development tours visiting Kangundo Subcounty where my government is implementing various development projects accross many sectors.
This visit offered me an opportunity to interact with wananchi and traders in Ndunduni and Kikambuani markets.
Recently I received a request from the local MCA and wananchi to drill a new borehole to add the many others which my government has developed in the locality. I acceded to their plea and have directed that in Ndunduni the Department of Water will sink a borehole starting tomorrow February 26 while on Monday we will have our drilling equipment in Kikambuani to begin works at Kwa Ndiu.
The completed boreholes will provide clean water to wananchi for both domestic and agricultural use, in line with my Maji ni Haki Yako programme.
I am impressed with the work that our Community Health Volunteers have been doing despite challenges occasioned by delays in disbursement of funds.
In fact, we have since surmounted that particular challenge and our volunteers have been paid. They remain a critical part of our health stream helping us to deliver Medicare down to the lowest level.
Not long ago, I hosted the Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia in Machakos where we launched the safety programme for Boda boda riders.
I met some of the riders today and encouraged them to take advantage of the training program which, besides giving them riding skills, will in addition ensure they are trained in entrepreneurship. I undertook, together with my government, to cover refresher training fees for all those with licences. We have also made further plans to waive the amounts for those without licences.
In 2013 when I took office I invited investors from around the world and they pledged Sh2.1 trillion for various investment projects but unfortunately anti development leaders went to court and blocked the new city project.
The case for the new city was thrown out after seven years and most of these investors had moved elsewhere. But thankfully some of them have promised to come back and we shall do the much we can in the remaining period.
My greatest desire is to see our youth get jobs and more income generating opportunities for our people at large.
Dr. Alfred N. MUTUA, EGH
