Executive Minister for Water, Irrigation, Environment, and Water Ms. Catherine Mutanu, led the commemoration of World Environment Day held at KMC grounds in Mavoko Sub County.
While emphasizing the need for collective efforts to protect fragile ecosystems, Industrial pollution, particularly plastic waste, is a challenge in Machakos County. To address this, my government is collaborating with relevant authorities to prevent deliberate pollution, conducting regular inspections in the Athi River industrial zone.
The theme of this year’s World Environment Day, “Solution to Plastic Pollution,” aligns with our focus on recycling solid waste. We are exploring cost-effective options for recycling within our municipalities to reduce plastic pollution. Additionally, we aim to actively participate in the national tree planting program while implementing sustainable measures to restore and protect rivers. Combating deforestation and promoting sustainable logging practices are crucial, and by prioritizing environmental conservation alongside development.
Let us continue to work hand in hand, united in our dedication to protecting our environment and creating a greener and healthier future for generations to come.
