Health, Town News|

One important lesson that the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us is that as a country, when push comes to shove, we can be self-reliant in many things.

For many years, we have had a thirst for importing goods and services, such that our innovation spirit and industrialization have been subdued.

This is the time to support manufacturing – from cottage industries to mega factories. We need to make it easier for our people to manufacture, sell locally and to export our made in Kenya products.

I urge both levels of government to reduce bureaucracy and to streamline taxation by ensuring that we promote exports of finished goods, grow wealth and facilitate employment.

The whole idea is to expand the economy and widen the tax base for government revenues while ensuring that we have more money in the pockets of Wananchi. With an expanded tax base, government can forego some of the current taxes so as to intensify production.

I wish to thank businesses and well-wishers who have today made donations to cushion our people from the Covid-19 economic hard times.

My heart is warm by these gestures of kindness and care and I am grateful to all those who have come forth to support our vulnerable communities.

I wish to thank and recognize the following organizations for their support.

1. SBM Bank

2. Shelter Afrique

3. Mombasa Cement

4. Alpharama Limited

5. Kenya Association Manufacturers (KAM) and POA tanks Company.

6. Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA)

7. Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC) through Njimia (K) Limited.

I appeal to other organizations to support us so that we can assist the vulnerable in our society.

To this end, we have put in place an efficient system to mobilize resources to cushion our people. I assure all well-wishers that their contributions will go to the right use and will be fully accounted for.

Those who wish to make their contributions can contact Ms. Romana Kimende, Chief Officer External Resources Mobilization on 0728 414 635.

Thank you and may God bless Machakos, may God bless Kenya.

H.E. Dr. Alfred N. Mutua, EGH
